About me
I'm Madison McMahan. I write practical, sourced guides for grown kids and caregivers helping a loved one stay steady and safe at home.

Why I started Steady and Safe
When I had ACL surgery, I had no idea what to buy for my recovery. I didn't know which products were actually worth it, and I worried about getting overcharged for things I might not even need.
The medical system can be confusing, and it isn't always as supportive as you'd hope. After the initial injury, I felt mostly on my own, and I didn't get physical therapy until after my surgery.
I also have aging parents, and I want to know what my options are to keep them safe at home as they get older.
That's why I started Steady and Safe. I want to help families figure out what's actually worth buying, without overpaying, whether you're getting ready for a recovery or helping an aging parent stay safe at home. I'm not a doctor or physical therapist, so always follow your own doctor's and PT's advice first. My job is to make the shopping part less confusing, so you don't have to figure it out alone.

My background
My background is in the medical industry and digital marketing, including SEO.
That background means I'm comfortable reading product specs, patient education guides, and published studies, and I know how marketing claims get written. It doesn't make me a clinician. I'm not your parent's doctor, nurse, or therapist, and nothing here replaces their advice.
What I cover
Steady and Safe is about helping someone you love stay steady and safe at home. I'm starting with bathroom safety, then getting the house ready for recovery after surgery, like a hip or knee replacement. Later I plan to cover mobility and safety around the rest of the home.
How this site works
I've used a raised toilet seat, a cold therapy machine, a walker, and a leg wedge pillow during my own ACL recovery. For everything else, I compare specs, measurements, and real buyer reviews, and I say plainly which products I've used myself. I also cite where health information comes from and date every guide. When a question is really a medical one, I'll say so and point you to the right professional. Read more in How I choose products.
Steady and Safe is published by Orbit 33 Digital, my small business based in Euless, Texas. It earns money through affiliate links, explained on the disclosure page.
